Two performance poets toured 5 cities in 5 days to launch the BBC’s Poetry Season by engaging the public in poetry recitals under the BBC Big Screens in city centres.
We were given just two weeks notice to organise and run these events and had full responsibility for all aspects including creative and press. We dressed a van with vinyl graphics taken from the overall BBC Poetry Season campaign. We then sourced, booked and briefed two performance poets who were used to interacting with the public and who performed from a small stage in the city centres in between performances from passing public.
We produced very large poetry boards on 6 foot high toblerones to dress the area, and produced T‐shirts and hoodies branded with the campaign logo and strapline. We liaised with BBC Big Screen Managers who played appropriate content on the Big Screens and relayed images of the public reading poetry onto the Big Screens.
We booked space with city councils and liaised with local BBC in each area to ensure BBC local radio and regional TV coverage. We also secured coverage in local newspapers. We filmed the public recitals and a selection of the best were posted on the Poetry Season website.
